Organic

Hi everyone, hope you're all fairing well this summer with all the high temps an wildfires burning about. I've been hiding indoors in my scraproom as much as possible!!!
Not that I am complaining any  :D

As a matter of fact I have one of my creations from the ScrapThat! July
"Summer In My Garden Kit"
 to share with you today!!

For information on purcashing the kid email
friends@scrapthat.ca

ORGANIC
In case I have not mentioned it before the July ScrapThat! Kit was my
ABSOLUTE ALLTIME FAVE!!!

Be sure to check ScrapThat!'s Blog July 24th, I have a nifty little tutorial coming up

This is a layout of my youngest lil monkey, being cheeky posing for the camera, which she loves doing by the way! I guess if photo's of myself turned out as cute as they seem to do of this lil bugger I'd love the camera as well.....but unfortunately that's not the case :/
LOL
The papers on this layout are from Fabscraps Organic Collection, which as usual are distressed using my Ingvild Bolme Distress Tool, before I layered them! I added a faux stitch around the edges using a white pen before I dry brushed some acrylic paint here and there all the way around for some added dept. This paper was go gorgeous on it's own I really didn't need to do much more!

This is my favorite part to my layout so I'm super happy to share this close up with you....the close up is of the lower left side and is full of yummy goodies from the ST July Kit.
You may notice the chipboard looks weathered and old.....I used this technique because I thought it gave my page a definate shabby chic look that I was aiming for. It was super easy really. I just gently dry brushed white acrylic paint over the chipboard (you only need a very very very small amount of paint on the tip of your paintbrush for this) Once the paint dried I inked the edges here and there with my vintage photo distress ink as well as spots here and there over the dried paint.
I layered a flower cluster sitting on top of some burlap slightly over the edge of the chipboard, before I also lightly brushed them with the white acrylic paint as well!

This is a close up of the flower cluster below the photos. They are layered over a piece of scrunched up lace as well as some scraps of burlap. I also gave each of these a light dust over with my white acrylic paints......oops and I see I missed the one on the right side of the bow....  :/
I love the way it gives everything that beautiful shabby white washed look.....kinda tones everything down and makes it look all tied together! To the right of my cluster I added some bling, which I think adds to that shabby chic look I was trying to achieve and just makes it look overall more femme!

My pages tend to be very layered and dimensional so I have been trying to photo side views of my pages so you can see all the yummy layers and goodies tucked all over!

Thanks for stopping by I hope you have enjoyed my page and are inspired to get in your own scraproom and create something beautiful!

Simple Life

I have another layout using
ScrapThat!'s July Kit
"Summer In my Garden"

As I said before this kit is chock full of lovely Fabscrap's Organic Collection papers along with an array of yummy goodies!!

The Simple Life
The photo in this layout is a random one I found online while browsing. It really struck a chord in me, I know many of you may look at it and see a junky ol' worn out barn, but I see these in my town on a regular basis living in a farming community. My husband and I long to buy a home with some property one day for the kids to enjoy, and it would be even more ideal if it had a barn like the one in this photo on the property!!! It just sings to my heart! As usual I distressed the edges of my papers, which those of you who know me and my work, know it's staple in my work! This time I decided to add some stitching around the corner with some embroidery floss. Again I used some white acrylic paint and gesso on almost anything that would stand still, including my border stitching!
I wanted to show you some close up details of the white acrylic pzaint and gesso on all of my embellishments. Like I mentioned aboved I lightly dry brush over anything that would stand still! It gave everything this lovely white washed toned down look and I just really love the aged, antiquey, shabby look it gives! Check out the way it looks on those green zva flowers!!! I think those might possibly be one of my FAV aspects of this layout aside from that gorgeous photo!! I also love the way it looks splashed over the burlap and leafy trim!! It just looks so yummy!
This is a close up of the top right hand corner, I wanted to show you my paint spill and explain how I created it.......but before I do that I just have to say that this may be another staple you will finding trending in my upcoming work, I really, really love the look of this!! It looks so grungy and shabby!
But anyways, on to how I created it.......I simply took my white acrylic paint and made a generous, but not to large of a pour spot on my layout where I wanted my spill to begin! Once I was finished pouring I simply stood my page up verticle and held it there for a few moments for the drip to take place, once I was sure it was done running I laid it back down to dry.

In the two close up's shown above I wanted to give you side views of my layouts. When I scrap I tend to make very layered and dimensional pages and projects and sometimes it hard to see the real beauty of this when they are lying flat!

Thank you very much for stopping by and taking the time to look it at my work, it means so much to me!!! I hope you are inspired to get out there and play with your own scrappy goodies and scrap something that touches your own heart as well!!!

Happy Scrapping!

July ScrapThat! Sketch

So before I show you my layout today I wanted to share witrh you that my friend Beverly Sams is having an awesome giveaway on her blog!!! Go check out her blog for some great inspiration as well as a FAB GIVEAWAY!!!
http://analteredspirit.blogspot.com/

I am just loving working with the talented Sketch Artist Amarilys Doria!! Her sketches are wonderful and I get to work with them every single month!!! Woo Hoo!!!!

It's so funny the full circle I've come with sketches, once upon a time I absolutely hated and wanted nothing to do with them, and quite frankly had NO IDEA how to really even use them......
But after a few years of playing with them and finding some really FAV sketch artist (Amarilys included) I have a profound love for them!!! I really enjoy using a sketch to get my mojo going, or when I feel like all my layout's are starting to look the same. I have even found more recently if it's a really good sketch that I'm wanting to use it more than once....I guess it's a good thing they are meant to be fliped, flopped and rotated!!!

Ok and now I'm rambling......Are you ready for the good stuff ???? Me Too!!

Here is the gorgeous ScrapThat! Sketch created by the talented Amarilys

Without further ado, here is my take on this gorgeous sketch using the fabulous
July ScrapThat! Kit
"Summer In My Garden"

This is a layout of my middle daughter from a few years back, I've scraped it last year, but wanted to use it again for this page as it matched so well with the Fabscraps Organic Collection found in ScrapThat!'s July Kit!

Those of you who follow my my know that I had a scrappy epiphany!!! And I am now irresistably in love!! With white acrylic paint and gesso that is.....

I have just had so much fun, playing and discovering and getting all messy this past month. I feel like a kid with a set of finger paints, tuning out the rest of the world and just creating to my hearts content! I have always loved scrapping, but you know how with anything we love in life, we still have down moments with it...I was begining to feel this with my scrapping and my new discovery has just left me in love all over again!!

So there I go rambling again....

Like I mentioned before I used
ScrapThat!'s July Kit
"Summer In My Garden"

It's chock full of yummy Fabscraps Organic Collection papers and other yummy goodies.
I used my brand new Prima Invild Bolme Distressing Tool to grunge up the edges of my paper, which anyone who follows my work, knows I'm a huge fan of doing! I love grunge frayed edge paper, the grungier (is that even a word?!?!) the better! During my distressing process I tried to mimic the tears in the sketch above.

Here's a close up on the right side of the Prima Flower Vine which is also found in the July kit. I placed them over a bed of burlap and cheescloth, both shredded to oblivion!! You can see I used some white acrylic paint to to white wash the flower vines, cheesecloth and burlap.....it just seems to tone everything down a bit and give it all a more suttle look.

This a close up of the left side, it featues a few more yummy flowers layered over my pretty picket fence (which is a dream of mine to have in my own front yard one day by the way) I am just loving this new hot trend of fences, I can't get enough of them, I find myself wanting to use them over and over and over again!! Along with my white acrylic and gesso, which you can see I gently dry brushed over anything on my layout that would stand still long enough to without the attack of my paintbrush and creativeness!!
This is a close up of the top right corner, I used a Prima Resin Window, which can be found in the July ScrapThat! Kit, like the flower vine and fence below, I layered the window in burlap and cheesecloth, topped off with a delicate teal flower!

The 2 close up's above are side views of my page, I tend to have very dimensional pages and layers on most of my layout's and I really wanted to showcase them to you. From this view you can also get a real idea of what my paper edge distressing looks like! It just really adds such a nice touch and detail to your projects!!

Thank you very much for stopping by, I hope you loved my page and if you are not already playing with wet mediums, I hope you are inspired to get yours out and just begin to play. If you don't try you will never know, and I am a perfect example of this when it comes to trying the gesso and acrylics on my layouts, they scared me for so long and once I tried it, I was surprised how unbelievably easy it was!!! So get out your paints, paste's and sprays and get busy playing!!!!

Happy Scrapping
