My Niece

Hello Everyone, I'm here today to share with you another layout I've created! This one is super special because it's my only niece and I just really adore her! On this layout, I used Prima Marketing's Heaven Sent Collection, which I absolutely adore. It has such a soft and sweet color palette.

As usual once I had all my goodies chosen for my layout, I began with layering my papers to get the perfect look for my page. Once I felt I had everything the way I liked it I distressed everything using my Invild Bolme Distress Tool. I love peeling back the edges of the paper to reveal another coordinating sheet behind the top, I think it gives it an extra tattered and worn look!

Once my distressing was complete, I began working on my chipboard stroller (I'm very sorry, I bought this from my LSS years ago unlabeled in a clear baggie, so I am really unsure of the manufacturer). I started out by giving it a light coat of gesso and letting it dry before I used lunminarte water colors to paint it. I then used some distress ink and stickles around the edges to give it a weathered aged look. I finished it off by adding some Flourish with a Bling pearls to the canopy and one for the wheel. I wanted to incorporate more of the paper collection so I used some Websters Pages lace netting to create a flowing blanket from the stroller with a baby cut from the Heaven Sent Collection peeking from the stroller. While I love the look of my chipboard embellishment, I do confess that if I could change one thing, I'd have covered it before I did splatterings of the white acrylic paint......oh well.

Moving on I started layering my embellishments which included a mixed array of left over Prima Florals , a fence I found in the crafting section at Hobby Lobby and more bits and pieces I fussy cut from the paper collection. I weaved pieces of burlap and baby's breath throughout my floras before adding finishing touches with some pearl centers. I wanted the tails to my bow to remain big, so I used a hot glue gun to give it a crinkled look. I actually have an older TUTORIAL HERE using this same technique.

To finish off my layout I used some distress in and a makeup brush to help it look a bit more aged, I then did some splatterings of white and brown acrylic paints, before white washing everything with acrylic paints as well. I added some last minute finishing touches with some stickles in various places thru out my page for some sparkle!

Oh I actually almost left out my favorite part!!! The feather headband! I actually didn't take this picture it was given to me and the top of her head was a bit chopped off.....I felt like I could never quite get it to look right so I decided to create an illusion of a full head by adding a headband. I simply used some lace , a feather and a pearl.....very simple! I finished it off by adding some stickles down the center of the feather.

I hope liked my layout and found this post useful, if you have any question feel free to email me at cj7evans@yahoo.com. I love reading your comments so let me know what you think! Also I have more layouts coming soon, so please check back for details on those as well!

Blue Fern Studios October Sketch

Hello everyone, happy Sunday!!!

I am  here today to share with you a layout I created using some gorgeous Blue Fern Studio Paper collection and chipboard for their October Sketch Challenge, you can find it here http://bluefernstudios.blogspot.com/2016/10/october-challenge.html

So I have the absolute perfect picture for this layout, however, being that I just moved 2 months ago, I am still sorting thru photographs as when I packed up my scrap room I just packed the piles of stuff I had cluttered all over my space instead of sorting thru it like I should have....shame on me! So for now it's a premade layout, which I have actually never done.

For my layout, I used Blue Fern Studio Courtship Lane Collection, which is gorgeous by the way, if you have not yourself any, don't walk....run to the store or online store and purchase yours today, it's absolutely stunning and super duper worth it!

Once my goodies for the page were selected, I started my page as always by getting my distressed edges out of the way, which is a must for me. I love to use my Ingvild Bolme distressing tool for this. I then used my Repeat Tile Remnant stencil with some generic medium texture paste. in various spots on the page. At the top right and top right side as well as the lower left side I added some splashes of glimmer mist and luminart water color drippings as well as some white acrylic paint splatters, which I also added a few more places on the page.

Once I was satisfied with my splatterings, I started layering my papers and florals until I achieved the look I had in mind. I then got to work on my chipboard, which are also from Blue Fern Studios (Wonderful and Royal Border) I was sad to find that my Versamark pad was dry and I couldn't emboss my chipboard like I had planned .......however, I painted it with some copper and mustard yellow acrylic paints and touched the edges some silk iridescent ink in yellow, which gave a beautiful glow to the edges. I wanted them to blend in with the white washing I planned to do at the end so I used my fine tip white gel pen to lightly outline various edges of the chipboard. I actually oved the way it turned out, so it made up for my dried up versamark.

I finished off my layout by using a makeup brush meant for eye shadow to brush some distress ink around the edges of my stenciling and layered papers as well as the corners of my page. I also added a bit of ink to the white florals using the same brush. I also added some cheesecloth beneath the florals as well a hemp cord ribbon.

UPDATE

Well... it's been a while hasn't it?! As many of you know and those of you whom may not, I have been an avid scrapper for quite some time now, like many of you I love to preserve my families memories, while nourishing my creative side. I also thoroughly enjoy the inspiration and creativity of fellow scrappers and crafters in the scrapbooking community. In Fall of 2012 I took a break from scrapbooking and returned to school in pursuit of my childhood dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. While it was not always an easy task to be a wife, mother of five and a student, all the while keeping up my house and staying organized, I am proud to say that I did it, and I did it well! I graduated this past May with Honors! YAY!!!

With that being said, now that I have free time on my hands again, I am aching to return to my crafting table so that I can pick up where I left off!  I have been perusing around scrapbook galleries, manufacturers websites as well as some of my favorite scrappy blogs and I am overwhelmed with inspiration....in fact ideas seem to be spilling from me and I cannot wait to get them on paper. However, as it turns out, my return could be a while as becoming a nurse has not been the only change in my life......my family and I also moved across the country two months ago and are still in the midst of painting, unpacking and settling in. The hold up to my returning to scrapbooking is that I have also decided to give my craft room a complete makeover. While I have really enjoyed picking out the new furniture and accessories for my new craft room, I am dreading going through the million boxes that are scattered throughout the room waiting to be sorted through. You truly have no idea how much stuff you collect until you are forced to go through it. In fact my family thought it was quite funny I had more boxes of craft supplies packed up for the move than I did kitchen boxes......hmmm.....

My plans are to begin digging into boxes either this weekend or early next week, and I'd like to blog my way through it as I transition back into the world of scrapbooking, so stay tuned, because I might even come up with some give aways and prizes!! In fact, if you leave me a link to your own blog showing that you have shared a link to my blog post today, I will enter you in a drawing to win some goodies next week and if you also become a follower, I will add your name twice! You never know what goodies I might come up with in all those boxes and shopping trips!
