Friday Finds

Like last week I was in a girly mood when I went in search of this weeks Friday Finds....I am loving the pink prettiness I have to share with you today thanks to Pinterest.com. Now I am dying to go out and restock my Prima and Petaloo flowers and get to work in my craft room! Haha I hate when that stash starts to run low which unfortunately does way to often! I love everything about these Pretties below, I mean I can almost smell the fresh aroma pouring from the blooms below.....I just want to lye down in them and take a nap.....haha now there's a thought.....

THE PAPER VARIETY TUTORIAL REVEAL

New Logo

 Scissor Distressing

Hi everyone, Jenifer here today, I have a quick and easy lil technique to share with you all today!
So grab a cup of coffee, sit back and enjoy!

I adore grungy distressed paper crafting projects, the more distressed the better!
Theres a few tools right now on the market to help you achieve this look, but I get it for
just .74 cents. Below is a cheap, easy and quick way to give you the same look the
distress tools give without the expense.

Supplies
Whatever paper crafting project you are working on (card stock or heavy weight paper works best for this technique)
I like to use a cheap pair of school scissors
(I DO NOT use my cutterbees or anything very sharp, you can easily cut your fingers)
you may want to have some acid free tape handy just in case
If your going to use a rounded corner punch or any ink distressing on your projects edges, you will need to do these
first. Once you've done this you can get started!

It's really simple, but you must be very careful, as you can easily cut yourself, and you wouldn't want to do that. You also
might want to practice this technique a few times on a scrap paper until you get a feel for how pressure to use and what angle to place your scissors.

I'm gonna demonstrate today on a scrap piece of paper, but you can use this technique on any size of paper!

Open your scissors completely and place your paper project in the center of one side of your scissors blade. Angle the scissors slightly and make striking upwards motions on your paper. Work in small sections at a time to avoid riping and tearing your project. You may need to go over one area several times until you achieve the desired amount of distressing your looking for.

Don't panic if you get a rip just align your paper the best you can and apply some tape to the back side, you'll want to make sure the tape is acid free and meant for scrapbooking. You may need to manipulate your paper a bit by slight moving it upward or pushing it inward a bit to hide the tear.

OOPS

ALL BETTER NOW

Once you've practiced this a bit and have a feel for it, you can even try it on lightweight paper. It works but it doesn't distress as much and it rips and tears VERY EASY. You will have to be super careful.

ALL DONE

I want to thank my daughter for helping with all the photo's!

THANKS FOR TAKING A PEAK

Scrap Yourself

So if your reading this chanced are your a fan of scrapbooking....
But out of all those beautiful pages you create, just how many are focused on yourself?
Haha thats what I thought....

Well Scrap Yourself is where you need to be then!
Here you can have yet another excuse to craft, create apage all about yourself all while having a chance to win a RAK!

Nifty huh!!!

This week's challenge was to create a layout about your winter feelings.

Here's my take on this week's challenge:

This is a layout of me during one of my rare winter outting's, lol. Can you see the fake smile in my eyes, lol....I just wasn't feeling it it, lol the fun that is....actually all I could feel was bitter cold.
I am not  a huge fan of winter, at all. Although I live in the North, I was born and raised in the South and do believe I will always be a Southern girl at heart.....you can take the girl outta the South but you can't take the Southern Roots outta the girl I like to say, lol. Haha and us southern people were not bred to adapt well in cold temps.  However with that being said I do love to look out of my windows after a beautiful snowfall. Everything is so white, crisp and clean looking. I love the look of the trees bogged down in sparkly ice crystals that shine brightly in the sunlight. These things are beautiful to me from the inside ONLY, lol......I shiver at the thought of having to go outdoors in that kind of weather, but being a wife and mother I can only protest the outdoors for so long even in the winter, lol they all love it and are bound and determined to get outside and play in it!
(As usual I have added the above journaling on the back side of my layout)
The paper is from Bo Bunny's Blitzen collection, and I just embellished my layout with a mixture of handmade flowers, snowflakes and a few doilies.
I hope you have enjoyed my page, looking forward to seeing your take on this challenge.

Liebster Award

Sharing and passing the "Liebster" Award

I have a blog award I want to share with you thanks to Kim
“Liebster” is a German word meaning dearestbeloved or favorite, and the Liebster Award is sort of a chain letter among bloggers that’s intended to showcase exceptional up-and-coming blogs (typically, those with 200 or fewer followers). Now, there’s no evaluation committee or formal award process for the Liebster, but in a way it’s even nicer – it’s recognition that a peer has noticed and appreciated your hard work.
Here are the rules:
  • Choose 5 up and coming blogs of fewer than 200 followers to award the Liebster to.
  • Show your thanks to the blogger who gave you the award by linking back to them.
  • Post the award on your blog.  Link back to the blogs you have given the Liebster to so everyone else can pay them a visit.
So in no particular order here are my 5:

The Paper Variety

Photobucket

It's Reveal Day At
This week's challenge was so much fun as well as a first for me!
The challenge is to create a project using fan folding. What a super a super cool effect it gives your project, I think I will definitely be trying this again.
Here is my take on this weeks challenge

I used Bo Bunny's Enchanted Collection (Thank You Bo Bunny), paired with some generic pink paper for my Diva Decor!

I knew exactly what I wanted to do when I first saw this collection, which is a must have for your stash if you have not purchased it already! It has even more detail and glitter in real life, beautiful, beautiful stuff!

The base of this project is a chipboard frame I purchased from my LSS a few weeks back, but hated the small photo opening, so I covered the whole thing with the Bo Bunny paper, I stole the mirror from my train case, lol SHHHH.....haha anything is fair game to a crafter right, lol?!?!?!

It's a decoartive diva mirror (if you look above the project you can see that I also added ome ribbon to hang the project). I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to keep it for my girls or give it away as a gift.....

For the fan folding challenge, I decided to create a simple fan as I thought it fit in with the theme and worked perfectly in my flower cluster!

A HUGE thanks to BO BUNNY
for being our sponsor for this challenge as well as donating their Enchanted Collection to some of the DT members for this challenge!

ENCHANTED COLLECTION

Thanks for looking, don't forget to link up your project at The Paper Variety

Stuck On You Sketches

I have another card to share with you today! Wow, check me out.....I usually never do cards, I have made a handful in the last month or so!

Anyway I created this based on a die cut challenge prompt from Stuck On You Sketches

The challenge this week was to use a snowflake die cut on a project.

So here's what I came up with!

I actually love how the card turned out, however the ribbon is not that green IRL.....I hate when that happens, lol.

I found this card template tucked away from years ago in my stash....HOWEVER I ust confess I lifted my 12 year old daughter.....the froth was not part of the card....she came up with it on her own as an interactive piece for the sentiment.....clever lil thing! So I copied her, lol and created my own, I also think I could add a pack of hot cocoa in the pocket as well! I do apologize, I do not know what this paper collection is, for some reason my LSS owner sometimes cuts off the labels, which drives me insame....lol. Anyhow after I adhered this mysterious paper I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink to grunge it and the froth up a bit, I also did this to the bow and snowflake. Speaking ofthe snowflake....I found it in the Holiday aisle at Walmart, it's just precut glittered chipboard!

But I have a treat for you all for stopping by today!

I found this exact template in PDF form for free so you can create your own!

Thanks for stopping by as always I hope you loved it and I appreciate all you kind comments!

Once Upon A Sketch

Wow finally, it feels like it's been a while since I have had something new to share! The holidays really put a damper on my crafty time, as I am sure it does all of yours too. I am sharing a layout today that I created using a Nadia Cannzizo sketch for Once Upon A Sketch, this sketch is just what I needed to get my creative mojo going again!

Isn't it FAB!!! I was so excited when this weekssketch challenge was posted because this sketch rocks, it's probably one of my FAVS, from Nadia!
Without further adieu here's my take on this week's sketch and journaling criteria (New Years Eve Feelings)

This is a photo of me, that is actually not one of my favorites because I look chubby here as in most of my photos for the year, lol I thought this a perfect photo to use for this challenge because what is one of the biggest New Years resolutions out there?!?! Weight Loose! Yep, thats one of my resolutions for the year, for those of you that have been followers of my blog for a while you may remember that I was dieting very successfully last fall and lost 14lbs in 6 weeks....well that kinda went by the wayside and I've gained most og it back, so here I am again desparate to feel pretty again....This challenge was just the motivation for that!
For this page I used Pink Paislee's Butterfly Garden Collection, which I did my usual scissor distress technique paired with border stitching! I used Picasa's photo editing program to make my photo this golden color (it's not sepia, it's actually more golden yellow IRL) I liked the way it drew out the gold from the paper! I also used Time Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Inks around EVERYTHING including my doilies, flowers and title.

I traced Tim Holtz resist chipboard alphas for the title so that I could have that look but in the color I wanted. I just used a solid side of the butterfly Garden collection and then cut and inked them up before applying onto the page with pop dots. I used 1 dot on the bottom of each and 2 on the top of each so they would sit at an angle.

Here you can also see my flower cluster, The blooms are a mix Prima collections as well as a chipboard piece from Prima. The clock is cut out from Prima packaging.

The journaling reads:
I love New Years, it's a time to start fresh, you get to hit the reset button &
renew the old. I am so ready for a fresh new clean start in 2012!

Here you can see the other flower cluster and the pearls I placed swirled around them. I love the look all the many distressed doilies gave the page, esp with the clock centered over this one in the close up. I forgot to mention above that the pink organza blooms were handmade by my LSS owner....she was selling this 2 pack for 89 cents.....I took a ton at that price!

Last but not least I wanted to show the paper layers and doily. The paper with the clock and script is actually more packaging from Prima Flowers! I think I will just start buying Prima's for the packaging, lol, it seems to work real well as layering paper as well as for fussy cutting!!

Well I hope you liked my page, thanks for stopping by!
