Best Creations Sketch Contest

Check out this wonderful Becky Fleck sketch from Page Maps! Below you'll find my take on it, but first I must tell you how much fun I had playing with sketch....it's a little different from my normal style, but I've enjoyed steeping outside of my box lately anyway, so I just had a blast creating my page below! Check out the details here to play along: http://pagemaps.blogspot.com/2011/06/best-creations-sketch-contest.html

So without further aadieu my take on the amazing sketch above!

This is a close up of the sun and clouds I created uing my Create A Critter Cricut cartridge. I used my cats eye chalks to ink the edges a bit to help them pop! I fussy cut the bird from an older DCWV paper collection and used my white gel pen to draw the little trail behind it.

Here I used some Prima flowers with a brad in the centers, while sticking to the color palette that was trending on my page! The chevron came from a DCWV punch pack, you'll see I used my gel pen again for my journaling which reads: I LOVE THE FRESH LOOK YOUR SUN KISSED CHEEKS GIVE YOU AFTER PLAYING OUTSIDE 6-22-11.

My thickers just seemed to pop off the page the contast with the white and bright colors and wood look all worked well together! The paper stripes came from various collections such as DCWV and Sassafrass Lass!

And finally my completed master piece in all it's glory! Haha just kidding but I do love it! My oldest daughter said she didn't care for it....but what do pre teens know, lol!

I hope you all enjoyed my page as much as I did, if so leave me a comment....I need some assurance esp. after my daughter dissed it, lol! Kidding but I do enjoy your comments!! Don't forget to check out the link above for your cance to win prize from Best Creations!!!

Weekend Fun

I have some photo's to share with you all from last Saturday's riding trip. Due to all the rain and high water table flooding everything this year we are stuck at our private track which the kids would love to see upgraded, lol. It was built when they first started riding and is to easy for them now, but still makes for good family time!

Good Times!

Vintage Layout

I created this layout for the monochromatic challenge at Scrapbook.com, only cream, beige and vanilla could be used with the exception of neutrals...lucky for me included in that neutral palette was the color olive....the page wouldn't be the same without the leaves in my opinion.

The picture is of my Paternal Great Great Grandmother on my Grandmother's side....(my dads' mom's grandmother) I'm not sure what year or where any of this is...I will have to do more reseach. Unfortunately the photo was copied and a very large finger print showed up on my copy....I may have to try and snag a new one one day.
I had to use many textures and use lots of colors from the neutral palette to make this page pop, so using Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress ink pad I altered a plain craft paper die cut lamp to give it some diminsion by gently using a sponges and distressing the edges and coiloring in the frame of the lamp pole. I also used the ink pad and sponge over my plain cream colored roses to give them an older vintage look. Again using the ink pad I distressed the DCVW background paper (from the luxury stack) edges and the edges of the half doily that I had painted cream colored with acrylic paint. Since there couldn't be any white in my page I dabbed the sponge on the centers of the clocks as well since they were once white inside. The clocks are from the Bo Bunny time peice collection, the largest one is from a punch out pack and the smaller ones I fussy cut. Last but not least the fence was another one I had bought raw and used acrylic and crackle paint for the vintage look. Once it dried I also attacked it with the ink soaked sponge, lol! I'm pretty happy with the results and now have a wonderful vintage family treasure to pass down to my kiddos!

Creative Soup's 6.27 Mojo Monday

I had so much fun with this week's Mojo Monday Get Crafy chalenge prompt!

We were asked to create a layout using 5 different kinds of alphas. I have to admit I was a lil nervous at first, I'm not sure before this page I's ever used more than 2 different alphas on one page.....but once I started I loved the look it gave the page, very playful and whimsical! Check it out

The paper is from one of DCWV retired paper lines, I just used the edge of my scissors scrapping it slightly to give it that distressed look and layered! I used a white pen around the top piece to outline a simple border to help it pop. For the alphas I just dug out some random ones that didn't have mant left in my stash and I used acrylic paint to give them all a lil make over so they would match....(this works on paper alphas to if you don't let it stick to the surface you painted it on...you just need to use a non stick surface or move it a couple of times during it's drying period to prevent it from attching.)

I've been asked what the title means....well it's kinda funny actually.....my youngest daughter has these beautiful dimples on each side of her chin when she smiles. She loves to show em off to you and tell you "I have nimples" AKA dimples, lol! She's only 4 and thats just how it comes out, kinda cute actually....but I realized once I finished this page that I'd completely covered up her "Nimples" So here's a photo of her cute lil smile

Her smile just lights up my day and I hope it has yours too!!!

Had To Share!!

So last year on season 8 American Idol, there was a beautiful young contestant named Katie Stevens...anyone remember her??? Anyhow I thought she had an uncanny resemblance to my middle daughter and my family was kinda like....no, no she doesn't, not really. Well I forgot about it until I came across this photo of her last week. Katies Stevens is the top photo and my daughter the bottom....what do you think? I definately will be scrapping these! I think the resemblance is very similar....they look as if they are related...well minus the eyes....and the fact that my daughter needs to grow into her teeth a bit more. I am curious when she grows up a bit if they still look alike....

Do you have a look alike or does someone in your family? I'd love to hear about it or even see pics!

My Take on Sassy Lil Sketches June 21st Sketch

The June 21st sketch from the Amazing ladies over at Sassy Lil Sketches!

Here is my take on the sketch....it was a fast 10 minute layout done at 2am......I think had I spent a little more time, it could be better, lol. But here it is....it had my kids approval, so thats something right! I think I wanna sit down and play with it some more though.

This is deffinately a super simple layout for me, pretty basic. The flowers were fussy cut from the DCAV Street Lace collection, which is beautiful by the way! I dressed them up by adding some bling in the centers to give it a more girly look.  I'm loving thickers lately and have been using them on everything including this page! The butterflies actually came from a paper pack I found for a $1 at Target, I just fussy cut a few for my page. And last but not least the journaling reads: Emileewas being a total pouty girl while I was taking her pictures. Speaking of the pictures, I think in the future I may refrain from using the matte option around the edges of the photo...it makes the photo look weird.....

Wish I had more to share with you all but I've been working like crazy on DT projects which I cannot share yet, but I think they are worth the wait, so be sure you check back often!

Friday Finds

I love unique color pallette's, I have found using palette inspiration lately keeps me from repeating the same color combos' all the time which believe me I am horrible about. I find one combo I love and try to keep recreating it. Some of the palette's seem outlandish, but you'd be amazed at hoew they look all pulled together on paper, they great to pair with a sketch as well! I have found some amazing combo's on http://www.pinterest.com/ to share with you today! Let me know what you think...which is your fave?

oh. my. SO PRETTY.
